ChinaCarbon.net.cn, 11 May 2017: The climate division of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), recently organised a meeting to scope out the upcoming unified carbon market trading and registration system. The proposals were submitted by Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, Shenzhen, Hubei, Tianjin, Chongqing, Fujian and nine provinces and cities in Jiangsu.
The NDRC heard the statements of all the parties and plans to declare the final result soon.
The national unification market, which has been the trending topic of discussion for a long time, aims to consolidate the 9 trading pilots into 1-2 carbon exchanges, according to the China Carbon Association. As for now, the existing pilot exchanges will continue with their regional carbon trading and may soon set up a national exchange to contract the national unified quota transaction as per further notice from NDRC.
